My team at The Mill worked with the creative team at Apple to design visuals for Apple's September Event in 2022. I was focused on the visuals for Airpods Pro 2. The work we did is still on Apple's website 3 years after launch. That is very unusual as they update their graphics very frequently, but I take that as a compliment.

The creative team at Apple really wanted to explore what we can do with particles. That has been their go to for audio products for a while now. Initially we were experimenting with more "nebulous" particles as their theme for 2022 event was space like, although in the end they reacted better to simpler more solid particles.

I was involved with this project since day one, it took a ton of iterations of concepting and prototyping in Houdini to get something that the client liked. The team at Apple wanted us to exploring controlling the particles with the stems of the music they were going to use for the video.

I was involved with this project since day one, it took a ton of iterations of concepting and prototyping in Houdini to get something that the client liked. The team at Apple wanted us to exploring controlling the particles with the stems of the music they were going to use for the video.

Development

We used CHOPs in Houdini to move and manipulate particles using the data in the different stems of the music track we were given. I developed a script to roughly create a matte element to block out particles from the performer and composite it in Nuke. This helped us speed up the iterations and get to the final look faster.
